New Arkansas Law Restricts Classic Car Eligibility For Antique Plates

New Arkansas Law Restricts Classic Car Eligibility for Antique Plates

45-Year Age Requirement Now in Effect

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - A new law in Arkansas has tightened the eligibility requirements for vehicles to receive antique license plates. Effective immediately, only vehicles that are 45 years old or older may be registered as antiques and display antique license plates.

Impact on Classic Car Owners

The new law has raised concerns among classic car enthusiasts, as it will affect a wide range of popular collector vehicles. Many beloved classics such as the IROC-Z Camaro and Porsche 911 RS America, which were previously eligible for antique plates, will no longer qualify under the new age requirement.

Application Process Unaffected

The new law does not affect the application process for antique or custom car registrations in Arkansas. Owners of vehicles that meet the age requirement must still apply at the state Department of Finance and Administration.

Historical and Special Interest Vehicles

Vehicles that are historically significant or have special interest may still be eligible for antique plates even if they are less than 45 years old. However, owners must provide documentation to support their claim for special interest status.
