Legendary Boxers with Olympic Gold

Olympic Boxing History

Boxing has been a part of the Summer Olympic Games since 1904, with the exception of the 1912 Games. Over the years, several boxing legends have punctuated their amateur careers with a medal win on the grandest of international stages.

Western Boxers

Western athletes usually participate in a single Olympic tournament and then turn professional. However, there are a few notable exceptions to this rule. For example, American boxer Oscar De La Hoya won a gold medal in the lightweight division at the 1992 Olympics and went on to have a successful professional career.

Women's Boxing

Women's boxing was added to the Olympic program in 2012. Since then, several women have won multiple Olympic medals. For example, Irish boxer Katie Taylor has won gold medals in the lightweight division at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics.

Iconic Moments

There have been many iconic moments in Olympic boxing history. One of the most famous is the "Thrilla in Manila," a 1975 heavyweight title fight between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. The fight was won by Ali, who knocked out Frazier in the 14th round.
